Olsalazine Sodium [ Dipentum ]
Olsalazine is a derivative of
salicylic acid. Inactive by itself, it is converted by the
bacteria in the
colon to mesalamine. Mesalamine works as an anti-inflammatory
agent in
treating inflammatory diseases of the intestines like Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

Olsalazine Sodium is marketed as Dipentum.
Dipentum is an anti-inflammatory drug used to maintain long-term freedom from symptoms of ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammation and ulceration of the large intestine and rectum). It is prescribed for people who cannot take sulfasalazine (Azulfidine).
If you have kidney disease, Dipentum could cause further damage. You'll need
regular checks on your kidney function, so be sure to keep all regular
appointments with your doctor. You should keep taking the medication (
with food), as long as your doctor directs, even if you feel better.Always notify doctor: Side effects may include

Rare cases of hepatitis have been reported in people taking Dipentum. Symptoms may include aching muscles, chills, fever, headache, joint pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, and yellowish skin.
You should not be using Dipentum if you are allergic to salicylates such as
aspirin.
